In a world full of imitators, gangsters, players, preachers, and politicians, it is hard to find the truth. In Mod’s world there is one truth. Him. Born in the nations capitol Mod was born into a bloodline of music. Harmonizing with the family was a must every night in the kitchen, food or not. There was something special about this kid. He knew all the parts. There weren’t any piano lessons, instead his brother taught him a Sheila E. riff one nippy Christmas day. It was the first time he touched a keyboard at the age of 5. That day is when it all started.
Growing up in D.C. in the late 80s wasn’t a walk in park. Violence and drugs frequented his northeast neighborhood. His older brother found crack on the ground and asked his mother what it was. Fortunately he didn’t think it was candy. This was enough to see fit that the family move to North Carolina. After a long journey on the train he and his family settled down on the east side of Charlotte. Mod begin to be more active in music. In the 5th grade he started a group. They quickly gained notoriety in school and beyond doing talent showcases and large festivals. Mod’s first venue was at the Victoria 5 in Harlem when he was only 11.
Growing up he always managed to bring the younger guys in the neighborhood closer to music. They sort of looked up to him.
He has always been a leader producing and distributing an online album in 2001. Which also had some international flare. There are many artists who can say they have been blessed with Mod’s production. Being a producer first is a statement he will make, but he also knows what to do with the music. He is not one sided. “It goes beyond just rapping, it’s about songwriting”
His friends joke and call him Dre. He would rather be called Mod but enjoys the comparison. He wants to make his own mark. A big one. A mark that says he came to do it and he did. Not with down your throat promotions and no substance, but with some of the most classic melodic music the world knows. He produces, he raps, he sings, he brings.
