Offended Yet?

Does It Offend You, Yeah?  A name inspired by the UK version of The Office, when Ricky Gervais’ character is ridiculed about his mid afternoon drinking. ”We get e-mails all the time from people who write, ‘I refuse to listen to your music ’cause your name is so shit,’” explains 24-year-old singer and bassist James Rushent. “The funny thing is, they’re offended by a band called Does It Offend You, Yeah?” Morgan Quaintance sings vocals, plays the synthesizer, and guitar.  Dan coop plays synthesizer, and Rob Bloomfield on drums.

DIOYY released their premier album, aptly named You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into (Almost Gold), in the Spring of 2008.  The Virgin artists have been likened to Justice (see Justice On Dope) for their distinct Demolition Man meets Tron format of relentless rifts and soul quenching bass lines.  Conversely, DIOYY draws comparisons to Muse for their metrical, almost weightless delivery.  You may recognize their sound from The Fast and The Furious IV trailer song “We Are Rock Stars”.  Does It Offend You Yeah has a blend of electronica and 1983 that taps on the door to the future of music.

DIOYY opened for Prodigy on their UK tour in 2008.  That same year they opened for Nine Inch Nails on their North American Tour.  They began earning their reputations as boisterous ruffians by smashing guitars and stage diving into crowds.  This all reaching a crescendo when finishing a sold out, headline, United States tour at the Troubadour club in Hollywood lead singer James Rushent broke his leg on the last song.  He then, in true rock fashion, limped back on stage for an encore and then went to the hospital.
